Thank you!
A few years ago I switched from a Garmin to the Apple Watch Ultra because I wanted better connectivity without carrying a phone. The native Apple training apps were woefully inadequate for complex workouts. For a while I used an app called ISmoothRun, which was great until an update made it crash frequently. Fortunately I found WorkOutDoors! This app has so much flexibility and customization that I was able to do almost everything that my dedicated Garmin watch could. There’s so much customization available, yet it’s fairly easy to use! I used the app happily and successfully for years. Note 1) The only problem I could not resolve was the ability to track cumulative time ahead/behind target. There is a field for this, but it didn’t work accurately for me. I spent only a few hours on this, so I can’t be sure that it can’t work, but I am unwilling to invest more time on a feature that should “just work”. Note 2) now that Garmin has better communication capabilities on its watches, I am switching back to Garmin. This decision is driven by limitations on the Apple Watch. I remain very happy overall with this WorkOutDoors app. Conclusion: if you are using an Apple Watch for serious running training, this app is a must have!
Customize this app to your heart’s content. Can show tons of info and maps, with lots and lots of options. Wish it could allow you to create routes, instead of having to import them from another mapping tool. And maybe its user error but it doesn’t send data to the native Workouts app (for completing activity rings, etc)
Just showed my girlfriend this app and we were both really impressed with the features that this app brings to our watch for our bike rides and runs!
Where do I start zero stars
I have an Apple Watch SE and wanted to use an external heart rate monitor. The app paired right away and I was off and running. After a 3 hour run, the battery was down to 30%. I’m now wondering if it will last for a marathon, especially if I also play music. Overall I really like the design and hope it can become my regular running app.
If an early prototype of Windows95 met a first generation Apple Watch and had a child that was accidentslly dropped on its head, this would be the interface it produce
Seriously this is a must have app for fitness. And it’s a steal for a one-time price. I’d buy a Garmin if it weren’t for this app. And even then this is still better because it does so much and be customized however you want. My only suggestion here would be for the developer to add various “beeps” for interval use on top of the current spoken audio cues. Beeps are easier to hear and are less intrusive if you are listening to music or especially audiobooks or podcasts.
Wow! Exactly what I needed for my short workouts that the original fitness app did not provide. Audible alerts as often as I want :) Thank you!
perfect app for any sport , reliable , easy to use and very affordable highly recommend
